Audience Feedback
1) Summary of the audience research you conducted
We asked a number of different age groups and both genders to discuss favourite genres to understand the most popular genres of music so we could get the best understanding of our target audience and who we can relate our film to or maybe the age rating of the film so its suitable and we can attract the majority of our target audience. The survey concluded for girls from 12-17 and women from 18-65 both preferred by majority that rom- com was the desired genre with minority of comedy and action therefore, we would attract some females with our film due to our final choice of action as our genre. On the Other Hand the boys, aged between 8-16 preferred comedy as a majority with others such as action and adventure. This may be due to age ratings as good action films are normally of the age of 15+ which is understandable. however men from 17-50 preferred action films as a majority especially men between 17-40 which we now understand is our majority target audience. older men proffered informative films and documentary's. This made us come to the conclusion that our target audience was men ages 17-40 therefore we knew our age rating would be 15+ and can include language and aggressive violent scenes due to being applicable to the age rating.
We also asked our target audience whom approved action as a genre what elements and narratives they preferred. the results were that a lot liked heavy action scenes with gun fights, car chases and also blood and gore. They preferred a thriller add which gets the blood pumping but also a film that gives off energy to the audience making you feel on edge and creates suspense. They also preferred when adults or young adults are actors so they can relate rather than young children being the main character because it would be unrealistic and not be relatable.
2) What have you learnt?
We leant that our target audience is between the age of 17-35 particularly the male gender. This helped us conclude who we would aim our film at so we understand the age rating and also who this would apply too and who would be most encouraged to watch so we can get the largest audience potential as we can. We learnt females do not usually like action films and prefer rom com due to being calmer but more relatable (stereotypically) to female rather than action applying to them. We learnt action films are desired to be using older aged actors between 18-30 to make them relate and feel part of involved in the film.
3) What was the general consensus towards your own idea?
the General Consensus towards our own idea was to use the genre of Action. We came to this agreement because it was, between us, our favourite genre. We feel we could use our editing skills and also our liking and what we feel most comfortable with portraying an action because we watch many action films for inspiration and less for romance as we don't have interest in romance films and we wish to enjoy our film and have a target audience of our age.
4) What developments / changes will you be making to your own idea based on these opinions?
We will increase the age of our actors so they are older than us or look older so we wont use children in the genre of an action film because we understand, in the public eye it would be unrealistic and also not attractive as a child hero doesn't appeal to the audience especially in a car chase where they are not old enough to drive likewise old enough to be in a shootout. we would make the film energetic to make the film involvement the audience but also make them feel emotional or inspired by the film as its an motivational film.
